Pinky Agnew::Nautilus Celebrancy
Pinky Agnew
I
am a Wellington-based celebrant, MC, writer, radio columnist, and speaker.
I have been self-employed since 1990, and the key to my success is my versatility. About half of my work is speaking and MCing, mostly for corporate clients and large organisations, as well as government departments and not-for-profit agencies, at conferences, seminars and workshops. I specialise in tailoring material for the client, spending time researching the organisation, industry and particular themes of the conference.
I have also developed a public profile through television (as Jenny Shipley in McPhail/Gadsby), as well as writing and performing in shows (Pinky Pops In, The Truth About Love, The Candidates), and radio – as a regular contributor to Kathryn Ryan’s Nine to Noon on Radio New Zealand National, and as a weekly columnist on Wellington's Newstalk ZB.
Lorae Parry and I co-wrote, sang and acted in the musical comedies, The Truth About Love, (which ran for a sell-out season at Circa Studio in Wellington in December 2003, and toured arts’ festivals throughout New Zealand), and the political satire The Candidates, (which ran a sold-out extended season at Circa in 2005). Our current play, Sex Drive, will debut in London in 2010. My one-woman show Pinky Pops In is structured around my comic poems. Click on Pinky’s Poems link.
Celebrancy is also part of my ‘portfolio’. I am a marriage and civil union celebrant, and I bring the same skills to this that I do to my performing work – warmth and humour, a well-written ceremony delivered with style and ease, and a day that runs smoothly, relaxing even the most nervous couples. I also officiate at name-giving ceremonies and funerals. Click on the Celebrancy link on the left for more details.
My first book, Heartsongs: Readings for Weddings, was published by Random House New Zealand in 2004, and made the top 10 best sellers’ list shortly afterwards. It is now published by Random House in the UK. My second book, Lifesongs: Readings for Milestones, was published by Random House New Zealand in 2006. . Lifesongs is available for sale from me emailing me on pinky@pinkyagnew.com.
